We are a non-partisan 501(c)(4) organization. We also have a political action committee (Building a Better California PAC). We are supported by entrepreneurs and business leaders who have built their businesses in this state, created hundreds of thousands of jobs here, and share a deep commitment to advancing policies that will improve quality of life and keep California competitive for generations to come.

Building a Better California has joined doctors, hospitals, Planned Parenthood, teachers, firefighters, business groups and entrepreneurs, Governor Newsom, both the Republican and Democratic candidates for governor, and many others in opposing Prop 40, which would damage California’s economy, cost our state budget billions of dollars, and expose all Californians to higher taxes—all without doing anything to lower healthcare costs.

We believe in durable, effective policies and public investments that help improve affordability and quality of life for all Californians. These include support for the following issues facing voters in the November 2026 election:
Yes on Proposition 1 – the Veterans and Affordable Housing Bond Act of 2026
Yes on Proposition 3 – the Renew State Income Tax Increase for Education Funding Initiative
Yes on Proposition 37 – the Second Mortgage Homebuyer Program and Revenue Bond Initiative
No on Proposition 40 – joining teachers, doctors, firefighters, Planned Parenthood, and others to oppose the so-called Wealth Tax
Yes on Proposition 41 – the Prohibit Excluding New State Taxes from Spending Limit and Require Special Tax Audits Initiative
Yes on Proposition 42 – the Retirement and Personal Savings Protection Act

Yes, Building a Better California supports Prop 3 to protect funding for our schools and healthcare by maintaining the state’s progressive income tax rates, which the wealthiest 2% have paid for 15 years. We are backing Prop 3 because we believe a healthy economy and strong public investments go hand in hand—especially in a state like California. We believe in strong, accountable investments that will strengthen our state, protect our schools, address the housing crisis, and improve other essential public services that will improve affordability and quality of life for all Californians.
